About Us

Founded in 2020, PRICE works to expand and enrich research, teaching, and engagement around the topics of race, immigration, class and ethnicity.

“We want to talk about the things that need talking about, especially when they are hard… Holding space for difficult conversations is important pedagogically and, more broadly, it is vital for democracy.”

Jamila Michener, Co-Director of PRICE

Our Mission

PRICE creates and supports opportunities for collaborative intellectual exchange between faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates in the department of Government at Cornell University, while also extending across and beyond Cornell to advance a larger effort to strengthen research, catalyze engagement, and support collaboration among those whose scholarship examines race, immigration, class, ethnicity and the various critical intersections between and within them.

“PRICE is animated by certain shared goals and premised upon certain shared values… But perhaps the most directly relevant is our shared recognition of the importance—for pedagogy, research, and social and political life—of engaging with these issues.”

David Bateman, Co-Director of PRICE

Become Involved

PRICE is a space for intellectual engagement between students and faculty pursuing research in the delineated topic areas. Given the open and inclusive orientation of PRICE, neither membership nor affiliation are necessary. Any student or faculty member with relevant research interests can be involved. All members of the Government department may participate in PRICE activities, and when those activities extend beyond the department, members of the entire Cornell community are welcome.

“These themes are intrinsically interconnected. Together they constitute the essence of our society.”

Sergio Garcia-Rios, Co-Founder of PRICE
